Thirty-seven cybersecurity-related merger and acquisition (M&A) deals were announced in September 2024.
An analysis conducted by SecurityWeek shows that 178 cybersecurity M&A deals were announced in the first half of 2024, representing the least busy half year since SecurityWeek started tracking M&A deals in 2021.
Here is a list of the most important cybersecurity M&A deals announced in September 2024:
Data protection company Commvault has acquired Clumio, a company that specializes in data protection in AWS, for $47 million. The deal enables Commvault to expand its capabilities.
Assurance and risk management provider DNV has bought CyberOwl, which specializes in cyber risk monitoring and threat management onboard maritime vessels. The acquisition strengthens DNV’s maritime cybersecurity and emergency response services portfolio.
Kiteworks acquires 123FormBuilder

Kiteworks, a company that delivers data privacy and compliance for sensitive content communications through its Private Content Network (PCN), announced buying 123FormBuilder, a Romania-based provider of data collection solutions through secure web forms and form-driven private content workflows. 123FormBuilder’s data collection technology will be integrated into the Kiteworks PCN.
Mastercard to acquire Recorded Future
Financial services giant Mastercard has announced plans to acquire Recorded Future in a deal that adds threat intelligence and cybersecurity technologies to its corporate portfolio. Mastercard is prepared to pay $2.6 billion for Recorded Future.
Pango acquires Kaspersky’s US antivirus business
One million Kaspersky customers in the US have been acquired by cybersecurity firm Pango. However, the transition from Kaspersky’s antivirus to Pango’s UltraAV has not been smooth, with many customers complaining about the transition process itself and the new product they were given.
Salesforce to acquire Own Company
Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to buy Own Company, a provider of data protection and data management solutions. Salesforce will acquire Own for roughly $1.9 billion in cash. Own’s capabilities will complement Salesforce’s existing offerings.
EQT to sell Open Systems to Swiss Post
Investment firm EQT is selling Switzerland-based Open Systems, a network and security company that specializes in secure access service edge (SASE), to Swiss Post. The deal enables Swiss Post to expand its cybersecurity capabilities.
The Tor Project has merged operations with the security-focused operating system Tails. The maintainer of the Tor privacy and anonymity network has worked closely with Tails for nearly a decade and they have now decided to pool their resources
Visa announced its intention to acquire Featurespace, a developer of real-time AI payments protection technology that prevents and mitigates fraud and financial crime risks. Visa said Featurespace complements and strengthens its portfolio of fraud detection and risk-scoring solutions.
WithSecure sells open source data collection product and business to Patria
WithSecure is selling its open source data collection product and business to defense and security company Patria. Patria said the deal will help it strengthen its cyber business.
